Late bulb planting checklist
Garden or bed: Date:
- Trowel test: the soil still digs and crumbles
- Tulips first if time is short
- Depth 2 to 3 times the bulb's width
- Bed watered after planting
- Weekly watering if no rain, until the freeze
- Mulch ready: wood chips, bark or pine needles
- Mulch 2 to 3 inches on once the ground freezes
- Small early bulbs left unmulched
- Late planting date written on the bulb map
